The current media blitz focused on the campaigns of both major political parties is getting a bit old for me. There appears to be no end to the daily "breaking news" or "scoops" from various news channels on television and radio. By the time the general election arrives, we'll be comotose.
I receive email from all sides of the spectrum concerning the candidates. I read them (most of the time) and then delete them. Does it mean I'm not concerned? Absolutely not! I'm deeply concerned as an American, but I also have a higher commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.
The apostle Paul, in Philippians 3:20 says, "For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ." Christians live in two worlds. We live on this earth, serving Him and those He places in our path AND we live in another world where Christ is Lord and obedience to Him supercedes all else.
Romans 13 reminds me that I'm to be a good citizen unless the secular government requires me to do something contrary to the will of God. Thankfully, in our nation, that seldom happens. There are things unregenerate people do that we do not like, but most of those things (abortion, for example) is not commanded by the government. In our society we can express our convictions but we need to keep in mind that "...the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit because they are foolishness to him." Thinking and behaviors change only when one surrenders to Christ as Lord. Our real citizenship is in Heaven. It is making Christ our life even while living here on the earth.
How can we live in two worlds? We do it by remembering that some day soon Christ will come and make all things new. It means we live in eager anticipation of His return and keep our focus on things above where He is (Col. 3:1-3). No political leader is our savior. Christ alone is Savior and Lord. Don't expect men to get it right...until there is surrender to Christ alone. Let's not lose sight of the fact we live in a fallen world but that Christ is coming!! George

George,

I agree that because of the media circus we will feel comatose by the time the election gets here. I don't know that I feel good about any of the candidates. I don't feel that any of them really have a handle on what this country needs or which way God wants it to go. We just have to pray that God will give us some insight on who He would chose for this country.

I just noticed that you started the blog thing. This was a great idea and another avenue that God will use to get His message across!

Thank Phil for the idea and also for everything you do including your wonderful monthly study/newsletterat www.echoes of grace.com.
